The body is strongly compressed and almost flat laterally, with an equally convex dorsal and ventral profile. The lateral line is partly distinct and partly absent. The second dorsal spine is the longest, with the spines of the first dorsal and rays of the second dorsal gradually decreasing in height. The scales are minute and rounded. The caudal fin is forked. The body is transparent yellowish-white with numerous tiny black dots. There is a small black spot at the base origin of the anal fin. The lower jaw is longer than the upper jaw.
