There are 12-14 whorls, each featuring vertically arranged curved ridges and prominent axial ribs adorned with spines. The shell is dextral and decollated. The aperture is nearly rhomboid, smooth on the inside, with a thin, irregular, and sharp outer lip. The inner lip is thick, smooth, and regular. The lower end of the body whorl is marked with circular ridges. The operculum is oval, thin, and concave on the outer surface, with a basal nucleus. This large aquatic mollusk has a rounded foot at the rear. The head bears one pair of large filiform tentacles and one pair of sessile eyes. The ctenidium is monopectinate. The overall coloration is typically brick red or dark brown, with a purple aperture and a yellowish inner lip.
