Common Kingfishers are famous for their iridescent blue plumage. The entire upper body, including the wings, back, and head, is a vivid blue, while the underbelly and a small patch below the eyes are a rich chestnut color. The throat and a small section on the side of the neck are bright white. They have small red feet and long, sharp, strong beaks designed for catching and holding prey. Males and females are very similar, but males have a jet black beak, while females have a chestnut lower half of the beak. Juveniles are slightly greener and duller in color compared to adults.
