Hirudo birmanica is slender, fairly large. Head small with five pairs of small eyes. Body colour is brown with seven dark brown dorsal stripes. Lip without median ventral fissure; short jaws without papillae.

Commonly found in the fish pond, rivers, lakes, haors, and other fresh waterbodies of Bangladesh
