This large cormorant is found nearly worldwide. It is notable for its large size, a white patch on the throat, and the absence of a crest. During the breeding season, adults have a distinctive circular white patch on their flanks. Immature cormorants usually have a contrasting white belly, though the African “White-breasted” variant also features extensive white underparts in all plumages. This cormorant is often seen standing on rocks or pilings and dives frequently while feeding on fish.
