Description:
The fish has an ovate, compressed body with dorsal and abdominal profiles that are about equally convex. Its body coloration is greyish with a reddish belly, and the margins of the pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins are reddish. The mouth is moderate in size, and the maxilla extends to below the anterior edge of the eye. The dorsal fin is positioned centrally between the tip of the snout and the base of the caudal fin. The pectoral fins are smaller than the head. The anal fin is long, typically with about 25-26 rays. The scales are cycloid and firmly attached to the body surface.
