Description:
It has elongated, moderately compressed body with a small dorsal fin. Its anal fin is nearly the length of the body. Pelvic fins are long and thread-like. The color of back side is olive and the flanks are greenish gray with a silver iridescence. An irregular black band extends from the snout, through the eye, and to the caudal peduncle. The color of fins are also gray-green.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Generally, occurs in ponds, lakes and sluggish waters.

It is an exotic fish in Bangladesh. It has been introduced from Singapure (1952); It is used for controling insect and weed.
