Description:
The fish has a flattened head with equally arched dorsal and ventral profiles. Its mouth is ventral, and the upper jaw is longer with a slight fringe on the upper lip. There are 4 pairs of barbels, with the maxillary pair reaching the base of the pectoral fin. The jaws are toothed, but the palate is toothless. The dorsal spine is smooth and moderately strong, while the adipose dorsal fin is longer than the rayed dorsal fin. The pectoral fins have strong, flattened spines with 8 or 9 strong curved teeth internally. The body coloration is brownish-yellow with a dark blotch on the shoulder. The anal and caudal fins are darker at their bases and tips.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Occurs in fast-flowing streams and large rivers. Prefers backwater of quiet eddies.

Freshwater (Benthopelagic; potamodromous)
Comments:
It plays the role of detritus-feeder in the hill stream ecosystem.
