The body is elongated, and the head is flattened. The gill openings are wide. The skin on the belly is longitudinally corrugated, forming an adhesive pad. The dorsal spine is finely serrated along both edges. The maxillary barbels extend to the base of the pectoral fins or slightly beyond. The skin is tuberculated. The origin of the pelvic fins is almost equidistant from the tip of the snout and the base of the caudal fin. The coloration is dark grey on the upper body, fading to dull white on the lower body. The body is speckled with black dots, and there are two broad yellowish transverse bands across the body.
