The head is flattened, and the body is moderately flattened from the sides. The gill openings are narrow and extend to the isthmus. The caudal peduncle is short and moderately slender. There is a complete lateral line along the middle of the body. The abdomen has a thoracic adhesive apparatus, with longitudinal ridges arranged in an elliptical pattern and a noticeable central depression. The mouth is small and positioned below the head, with lips covered in small projections. The upper jaw extends beyond the lower jaw, and there are small teeth arranged irregularly in rows. The fish has four pairs of barbels.
