The fish has a rhomboidal and compressed body with the ventral profile being more convex than the dorsal. The mouth is terminal, featuring a symphyseal knob on the lower jaw and a notch on the upper jaw, with the lower jaw being longer. There is no barbel present. The lateral line runs through the lower half of the body and terminates below the midbase of the caudal fin, consisting of 40-45 scales. The dorsal fin originates centrally between the snout tip and the caudal base, while the pelvic fin origin is closer to the snout than to the caudal base. The body is greenish-silvery, with the anal fin being golden, and the pectoral, dorsal, pelvic, and caudal fins exhibiting similar coloration.
