The fish has a single dorsal spine and six dorsal soft rays, with a total of 34 vertebrae. The snout is moderately projecting, and the cheeks are relatively expanded, giving the head a cylindrical shape. The anterior nostril is very close to the snout tip, with the distance being less than the eye diameter. The nasal barbel extends to the eye, while the maxillary barbel reaches only to the end of the pectoral fin. The maxillary-barbel membrane is broadly attached to the head only on the cheek, and the maxillary bone extends posteriorly to midway between the eye and the end of the head. The vent opens directly to the exterior, with the vent and genital papilla located between the anterior third of the pelvic fins. Both the dorsal and pectoral fins lack filamentous extensions. The anal fin comprises 4-5 simple rays and 7-8 branched rays, totaling 11-13 rays.
