Description:
This fish has a strongly forked caudal fin, usually marked with four to five dark, broad, regularly spaced V-shaped bars. The dorsal-fin origin is typically positioned anterior to the pelvic-fin origin. It is of moderate to large size, with the lamina circularis formed by the fusion of the seventh and eighth pectoral rays, sometimes creating a small dorsally projecting flange but never a large flange with serrations.
