Description:
Fin formula: D ii-iii 9-12; A ii-iii 5; P i 16-17; V i 7. Shape of body is elongate and slender. Ventral profile less convex than that of dorsal. It has prominent snout with overhanging mouth without any lateral lobe. Lips thick and continuous. Eyes small not visible from underside of head. One pair of small maxillary barbels are present. Caudal fin is forked. Lateral line with 42-43 scales atre present. Body color: bluish or brownish black on back, silvery below, bluish silvery on flanks. Fins are blackish and caudal base has a large diffuse spot.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Adults inhabit torrential hill-streams in shallow waters, lakes and streams.
