Description:
Dorsal fin has 13–17 rays, while the anal fin has 8–11 rays. The scales are small and a lateral line is present. There are 2 dorsal spines with a total of 13-17 dorsal soft rays; 2 anal spines with 8-10 anal soft rays; and a total of 46 vertebrae. Body is elongate and somewhat compressed with a small, toothless mouth. Single dorsal fin is located about mid-level on the body and the pectoral fins are falcate while the caudal fin is large and deeply forked. There are no scutes on the belly and there are 4 branchiostegal rays. Body’s coloration is olive green dorsally, with silvery flanks and the unpaired fins have dark margins.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Coastal pelagic, entering estuaries, rivers and lakes.

Comments:
It is an exotic fish in Bangladesh. It hasbeen brought from Philippines (1996) for research and aquaculture.
