Description:
It has four barbells, two on either side of its nose (2 pairs). Dosral profile is more convex than of abdomen. The area around its snout is smooth, lacking any pores. Its eyes are positioned slightly towards the front half of its head (anterior from the half of the head). Caudal peduncle is short. The fish has a clear, well-defined lateral line with scales of moderate size. There are 20 rows of scales on its body before the dorsal fin and 22 rows around the base of its tail (caudal peduncle). The mouth is located on the underside of its head (inferior) and is moderately wide. The overall color is dark black, but the underside is lighter. The gill cover (opercular region) has a white ventral portion, and the iris of its eye is coppery-colored.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Abundant in beels and haors of Mymensingh and Sylhet.
