Description:
This fish has a long, thin body that’s flattened from side to side (compressed). Mouth is small. It has four barbels, two on either side of its nose. The ones on its upper jaw (maxillary barbels) are very long, sometimes reaching all the way to the middle of its body. Pectoral fins are long and have colorful markings. Lateral line is incomplete. The fin on its back (dorsal fin) sits further back on its body, while the anal fin starts just below the back end of the dorsal fin. The outermost ray on the pelvic fins (fins near the belly) is elongated. Fin formula: D. 8(2/6); P1. 11-13 (1/10-12); P2. 7(1/6); A. 7- 8(2- 3/5)
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
Found in small streams, ponds, ditches, beels and inundated fields.
