Description:
This plant is a perennial sedge that spreads through stolons, which culminate in small, subglobose tubers ranging from brownish to blackish in color. It forms tufts of stems, which are cylindrical, finely longitudinally striated, and spongy and deep green in color. The leaf sheaths are bladeless, membranous, and reddish-brown at the apex. Spikelets are cylindrical and broader than the culms, with a subobtuse apex, appearing whitish. Glumes are numerous per spikelet and range from elliptic-oblong to oblong-obovate in shape.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
It typically grows in open marshy areas along the coast and inland waterbodies like ponds, rivers etc. It is widespread throughout Bangladesh.
Environment:
Freshwater, brackish.
