Description:
They are brownish in color with a bluntly triangular prostomium and no eyes. They typically have 65 to 80 segments, followed by some undifferentiated posterior segments. Dorsal bundles of setae start in segment II, containing 1 to 5 hairs and 3 to 6 needles per bundle. The hairs are bayonet-shaped, with decreasing length in posterior segments. Needles come in three types, with 3 to 4 per bundle initially. Beyond segment VIII, there are 5-6 bifid needles per bundle, some of which are replaced by oar-setae, where the blade of the ‘oar’ aligns with the axis of the teeth. The length of the axis ranges from 40 to 75 µm, with shorter lengths in posterior segments.
