Adult Aedes mosquitoes stand out from other mosquito species due to their slender and typically black bodies, distinctive patterns of light and dark scales on the abdomen and thorax, and alternating light and dark bands on their legs. Females can be differentiated by the pointed shape of their abdomens and their shorter maxillary palps compared to the proboscis. When landed, Aedes mosquitoes typically hold their bodies close to the ground and parallel to it, with the proboscis pointing downward.
