Description:
It is a floating aquatic herb with a submerged stem that produces two types of adventitious roots. Its leaves form a rosette and float on the water’s surface, with densely hairy undersides and swollen petioles. The flowers are white and tetramerous, emerging from the water or floating on its surface. The fruits are large nuts, which can be either glabrous or hairy and feature two sharp spines.
Habitat & Distribution in Bangladesh:
It is commonly found in freshwater beels, ditches, and ponds, particularly in the wild, and is distributed across several districts in Bangladesh, including Dhaka, Mymensingh, Naogoan, Rajshahi, and Sylhet.
