Description:
The valves are lightly infused with silica, displaying bilateral symmetry and an isopolar structure. The central portion of the valve has nearly parallel sides, tapering sharply toward narrow ends. Fine fibulae are present solely along the margin and are evenly distributed across the central valve. The striae are not observable through light microscopy. When these organisms perish, their remains contribute to the formation of siliceous oozes.
