The body is elongated, flattened and depressed anteriorly, and cylindrical to compressed posteriorly. The head is extremely depressed and spatulate. The mouth is small and inferior, with the gape slightly shorter than the eye diameter. The gill-opening is narrow, with the membrane broadly united with the isthmus. There are no barbels, and the lips are fleshy.The dorsal origin is slightly closer to the snout tip than to the caudal base. The pectorals and pelvics are placed horizontally, with 6-7 outer rays of the pectorals and 2 outer rays of the pelvics being unbranched. There are 30-34 scales in the lateral series. The body coloration is reddish-brown with irregular black blotches along the middle of the sides.
