The body of Hirudinaria granulosa is soft and elongated, flattened from top to bottom. It’s quite sizable. Its dorsal surface ranges in color from brownish to olive-green, while the ventral surface tends towards shades of orange-yellow to orange-red. However, the exact coloration can vary depending on the age of the leech and the quality of the water in its habitat. The sides of the body are marked by distinct stripes. The anterior part of the body is relatively narrower compared to the broader posterior section. There are no cephalic appendages, parapodia, or setae. The jaws are large and equipped with numerous distinct papillae. The oral sucker is oval-shaped with a mouth located ventrally, while the posterior sucker is well-developed and circular.
